Meet the ACC's lead winter guide, Doug Latimer

About a year ago we opened up a new position at the ACC for a Lead Winter Guide, and we’re happy to say that Doug Latimer filled that role. He has over 20 years of guiding experience behind him as an ACMG ski guide and an ACMG apprentice rock guide. As well as his private guiding he has spent a number of years working for the UoC where he taught a range of instructional programs in avalanche training, crevasse rescue and backcountry ski and ski mountaineering.

Plus-size mountaineering answers call for body inclusive backcountry camps

The camp is sold out at the time of this post, however we thought it would be helpful to shed light on why we feel that camps like this are important for the fat-identifying outdoor community and for the ACC.

Six questions with Sean Isaac

Sean Isaac’s been a long-time ACMG Alpine Guide that often joins us on ACC Adventures, whether it be leading our Early Season Ice course, Hut Discovery programs or teaching technical rock skills. His passion has already helped many people improve their technique and push their grade.

In an effort to help our guests learn more about the background of their guides, we thought we’d sit down for a few short questions with Sean.

Girls on Ice Canada Clothing Drive

Because Girls on Ice Canada is aimed at underprivileged young women who have never been on glaciers and who aren’t kitted out for mountain travel, we’re collecting gently-used gear for them.

If you’re looking to clear out some of your old gear to make room for new this summer, please consider a donation to Girls on Ice. The drop off is at Gear Up Sports in Canmore on June 6, 2:00 - 5:30pm.

The 24th Section of the ACC: Columbia Mountains

The newest section of the ACC, designated at the Club’s board meeting in late October, is based out of Revelstoke, BC, a mountain town with deep roots in exploration and guiding. The section will represent a hugely historically important mountain area and will fill in the space on the ACC membership map between our Okanagan (BC) and Rocky Mountain (Alberta) sections.
